Optics Valley International Tennis Center put into trial operation
The 5,000-seat tennis stadium lit for the first time on the evening of July 21. The 5,000-seat tennis stadium of Optics Valley International Tennis Center, which is located in Wuhan, capital city of central China’s Hubei province, was put into trial operation on July 22. The Optics Valley International Tennis Center is located to the north of the Wuhan-Huangshi Highway, to the east of the Third Ring Road, and to the west of the Hubei Olympic Sports Center. For high-speed rail passengers, it is the gateway to Wuhan. This tennis center is composed of a 15,000-seat stadium, a 3,000-seat stadium, and a 5,000-seat stadium, with a total investment of 2 billion Yuan (32.3 million U.S. dollars) and an overall construction area of about 70,000 square meters. The 15,000-seat “Whirlwind Court” is the main stadium, it is sure to attract the most attention. Two months later, the first WTA Wuhan Open will be held at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center, where more than one hundred top-level female tennis players around the world including Li Na, Serena Williams, and Maria Sharapova will be competing here for eight days. It was also reported that the ITF International Women’s Tennis Tournament (Wuhan) will take place here, from July 26 to August 2.
