On March 10, the publicity department of Wuhan municipal Party committee, the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley) and Huazhong University of Science and Technology(HUST)jointly held a career talk on “Working and Starting Up Businesses in Wuhan” in the HUST.The event attracted more than 700 students.
Huang Li, Optics Valley’s entrepreneur and chairman of Guide Infrared; Zhang Wenming, co-founder and CEO of Douyu TV; Song Shujun, co-founder and vice-president of Juanpi.com; and Ye Yi, founder of Dongke Chuangxing, attended the career talk and shared their innovation and start-up stories in Optics Valley and Wuhan.
Li Shuyong, head of the publicity department and a member of Wuhan Party’s top leadership body, introduced Wuhan’s history, development and future blueprint, and encouraged students to stay in Wuhan and begin their careershere after graduation.
Lu Gang, secretary of the HUST Party committee, said that HUST students should establish themselves in Wuhan, which, although rooted in China, is a way to connect them to the world.
Zhang Wentong, head of Optics Valley’s administration office, said that the high-tech zone had become an ideal place for college students to innovate and start up businesses, and that the zone intended to invite HUST students to build a world innovation and start-up center together.
It is estimated that the high-tech zone’s technology enterprises above designated size can absorb at least 80,000 people in 2017, and the number may surpass a further 20,000 in 2018. The total revenue of the high-tech zone’s enterprises attained 1.137 trillion yuan ($164 billion) in 2016. Actually used foreign investment ranked top in Wuhan, and its foreign trade export occupied 53 percent of that in Wuhan and 30 percent of Hubei province.
The high-tech industrial output value accounted for over 30 percent of Wuhan and20 percent of Hubei province. An average of 51 new enterprises were produced each workday in 2016. There are currently 70,000 main market players, 50,000 enterprises and 300,000 venture entrepreneurs.
HUST will continue to focus on Wuhan and try to bring the best projects to Wuhan and Optics Valley.
